Why Be A Lifeguard
Being a lifeguard comes with many benefits such as opening up employment opportunities for full time, part-time or gap-year work.
Compete with your lifesaving club at pool and open-water galas where you can earn provincial or national colours and compete at an international level.
Putting others first through voluntary service and social lifesaving at various events such as the Midmar Mile, triathlons and other swimming events.
Lifeguard Courses
Through Personal Lifeguard Services, we offer internationally recognised lifeguard courses to organisations and individuals.
We train individuals to be lifeguard professionals who are able to recognise safety risks and act appropriately as needed.
The courses will be divided into three key components: theory training, practical training, and swimming training.
The theory and practical training will be done in compliance with the Lifesaving South Africa manual of instruction.
The purpose of the swimming training is so that candidates can train to meet required swim times, outside of regular theory and practical training, so as to not take away from any teaching and instructing time.
Niplets
Under 8 Years
The purpose of the niplets is to get children interested in swimming, lifesaving, and the water environment.
We aim to provide a fun-filled session in a non-competitive setting.
The group is taught on land in a kiddies pool, which is a safe yet challenging and engaging environment.
Nippers
8 -14 Years
The first step in becoming a lifeguard is to become a Nipper. The adventure begins with a Nipper course that is both fun and challenging. Our Nippers, who range in age from 8 to 14, receive lessons in physical fitness, swimming and vessel handling, water safety, basic first aid, and lifesaving skills.
Junior
Lifeguard Award
14 -16 Years
Achieving this award is the next step towards becoming a fully-fledged Lifeguard.
It is suitable for candidates that are between the ages of 14yrs and 16yrs.
Qualified Junior Lifeguards may perform voluntary lifeguard patrols under the supervision of a qualified Lifeguard.
Open water
Lifeguard
16 and older
The open water Lifeguard Award is the standard qualification required to perform lifeguard duties on rivers, lakes, and dams, be those in a voluntary or professional role. The training is structured to provide the candidates with the relevant skills needed to execute rescues in the open water environment and, if required, deliver basic first aid and resuscitation assistance.
